SIGHTSEEING IN ROME

Sightseeing in Rome

Sightseeing in Rome also known as The Eternal City is second to none. Rome is jam packed with history and it dates back 2700 years making it one of the most ancient cities in the world.

ROME AND RUNNING

The monumental buildings such as the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, St. Peters Basilica and the Vatican City  leaves visitors spoiled for choice in terms of tourist attractions to visit. With all the richness of Roman architecture, cultural diversity, gastronomic delights, bustling nightlife and a lot of history, Rome is a prime holiday destination. To truly get under the skin of Rome, we naturally recommend a guided running tour where a local runner will guide you on a 6-10 km tour (view them here: Running tours in Rome that covers the main sights of Rome.

Rome is despite its many tourists ideal for running. The terrain is flat and the main sights are within a short distance, so that you can cover most of them on a 6-10 km running tour. You will be running through windy streets while breathing in thousands of years of history. Rome is truly a unique running city.

Rome has a Mediterranean climate which means pleasant temperatures all year round although summers can be fairly hot with day time temperatures around 30 degrees. This is also why we recommend running in Rome in the early hours of the day as temperatures are lower and the streets uncrowded.

Along with the rest of Italy, Rome is a paradise when it comes to food. It boasts several Michelin restaurants (see below) but also plenty of local markets, where visitors can taste local cuisine and take in the abundance of fresh meat, fish, fruit and vegetables.

While sightseeing in Rome, your senses will no doubt be stimulated. The sound of the bustling city, the smell of pizzas and local bakeries and on some streets, you may feel that you are stuck in the 16th century with women hanging clothes from the windows and children running across cobblestones.

Rome Restaurants

Romans and food go hand in hand and the locals take their food and wine more serious than other nationalities. Regardless of whether you are looking for a local snack or a fine dining experience, Rome has what you are looking for. While some visitors, stick with the bigger names and landmarks for eating, we recommend to visit the city’s 3rd century, Aurelian Walls. It’s where you will find that most natives go to have food, live and shop. Da Enzo is a place that most local Italians cherish, while Farinè, Aroma, La Pergola, Oliver Glowig and Capo Boi are also a must visit.
